Wood.
My name is Mike Summer and thank you for taking a moment to visit my website and learn more about who I am and what I do. I am a custom furniture builder, designer, restorer and general woodworker and craftsman. Currently, I design, build and install furniture, toys, gifts, custom frames and built-in millwork for both private and commercial clients. I have spent 20+ years in the building industry with a heavy focus on designing and building custom projects and have truly found that my passion is helping others make their dreams a reality.
I began the craft of “fine-woodworking” in 2012 when I decided to build a cedar box to be used in my wedding ceremony. I distinctly remember sitting on my back porch with a new chisel, slowly cutting in the locking hardware and thinking that this was a true calling of mine. Over the next few years, I worked to hone my craft and built a workshop in my basement. That is truly when I learned how rewarding and challenging woodworking can be. I continued my career in commercial construction, built dream bedrooms for children with disabilities, and worked in commercial real estate development all the while spending as much free time as I had in my shop, building home improvement projects, furniture, and participating in craft fairs. I found that I truly loved working with recycled materials - from breaking down old furniture and turning it into something new to reclaiming wood studs from historic buildings that were being renovated. In 2020, I decided to take the skills I have learned through my experience and go full-time and commit to my passion.
When I am not covered in sawdust, I can be found out ‘in the woods’ traveling with my beautiful wife and daughter in our refurbished 13’ Scamp trailer, fly fishing mountain streams or huffing and puffing up a hill on my mountain bike.
